REPORTING TO: Chief Marketing Officer
 

ROLE BACKGROUND:

We operate within a dynamic and changing building industry business segment. There is an emerging industry trend towards a more consumer oriented environment and away from its historical merchant trader oriented past. In addition to the traditional merchant/trade, there is a growing business environment impact from key influencers (Designers, Architects, design-savvy Developers…) as well as emerging interest from DIY chains for branded / flagship product. In this respect the company has an ambition to move from a manufacturing led ‘push’ trading organization to a branded and innovation led ‘pull’ or demand led strategy.

The Company operates as a geographically dispersed Pan European business with significant sales activity in both the residential and non-residential markets. Despite significant recent effort to develop the Company’s Brand strategy and overall Marketing competence, the Company in general still thinks more as an engineering manufacturer/supplier and seller of product rather than as a consumer-driven ‘solutions-oriented’ organization. Overall awareness of true marketing principles and the general competence of the marketing staff are considered to be weak.

The Company has recognized the need to significantly step up its overall Marketing performance & capability in order to become a recognized leader in ‘design solutions’.

The appointee must be able to operate effectively as a credible member of a European Marketing team who employ a robust style. Strength of personality and a demonstrated professional track record illustrating that they are pragmatic, hands-on and can take people with them to get things done at a pace & in a quality fashion is considered essential.


SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION ON THE ORGANIZATION:

The Strategic Pricing Director is accountable for building Pricing capability in the organisation (both at a country and central functional level) and supports the CMO in strategic pricing decision making. They are a member of the Marketing Leadership team and interact with Local and European Marketing, Commercial and Finance teams. The Strategic Pricing Director defines sustainable pricing strategies, processes and tools and leads their embedding in order to build best in class pricing capabilities across the business.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Build, Develop and drive the Pan-European Pricing Strategy to meet agreed business objectives:

• Defines Strategic Pricing processes and tools for the business and is accountable for ensuring they are embedded in the organisation.
• Supports local Commercial teams with the implementation of identified Pricing Opportunities according to the Pricing Project.
• Defines strategic pricing policy for New Product Price determination in line with the New Business Creation Process.
• Supports brand equity building by defining sustainable Pricing Strategies in line with Brand Strategy
• Leads the Process of Pricing Capability assessment and identifies (with the organisation) capability building needs, develops and delivers said programmes.
• Educates, informs and guides on the use of Pricing Strategy, Processes and Tools in close collaboration with Product teams, Ideation Director and Operational Marketing ensuring product prices are being built according to associated consumer benefits.
• Leads the Annual Pricing Planning Process and regular Pricing Forecasting Processes in alignment with different functional teams such as Product Management, Commercial lead, Finance, Procurement, Operations.
• Builds (with Finance) a pricing tracking mechanism & monitors monthly Pricing Performance against Plan or Forecast
• Builds Pricing Performance Improvement Plans together with country management and audits on compliance
• Leads the European pricing team and functionally manages the local pricing teams.
• Ensures that pricing function (Central and Local) is staffed with pricing manager of appropriate qualifications, experience and development potential.

• General Experience / Knowledge base:

• Language skills = fluent in English
• IT = MS Office

• Basic Finance/Controlling knowledge preferable
